Quality Control Standards and Methods

Taurus Engineering’s Quality Control Standards Policy is to provide service and equipment which consistently satisfies and exceeds the needs and expectations of its customers.

This level of quality is achieved through adoption of a system of procedures that reflect the competence of the Company to existing customers, potential customers, and independent auditing authorities.

Achievement of this policy involves all staff, who are individually responsible for the quality of their work, resulting in a continually improving working environment for all.

To achieve and maintain the required level of assurance the Managing Director retains responsibility for the Quality System with routine operation controlled by Quality Managers.

This system includes but is not limited to the following Quality Standards, Testing Practices, and Equipment Certifications:

  • CSA Certification: Taurus Feedthru Equipment is Certified and Audited by CSA . This certification is for Class I, Div. 1 & 2 Hazardous Location Products.
  • ATEX Certification: Taurus Feedthru Equipment is Certified by ATEX. This certification is for equipment and systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • IECex Certification: Taurus Feedthru Equipment is Certified by IECex . This certification allows for international compliance with IEC standards.
  • ANSI/ASQ Standard Z1.4 (Acceptable Quality Level for incoming material): All incoming critical componentsare 100 percent inspected, meaning every part is individual inspected (no batch inspecting). Non criticalcomponents are inspected according to Z1.4 level AQL I, 1.0.
  • NACE MR0175 (Metallic Components Compliance): All incoming metallic components are required to be NACEMR0175 Certified for sour service in H2S environments. Taurus receives Mill Certs for all metal parts, which aremaintained in Taurus’ electronic database for traceability.
  • API 11s6 (Electrical Testing): Field Attachable wellhead and packer penetrators are electrically tested accordingto API 11s6 Standards.
  • IEEE 1017 (Electrical Testing): Electrical Submersible Pump Cable Systems are electrically tested according toIEE 1017 procedures and test voltage acceptance values.
  • IEEE 400 / IEC 60502 (Electrical Testing): Taurus certifies Surface Equipment is tested to either IEEEGuidelines or IEC Guidelines, depending on which jurisdiction is required by the customer.

Quality Control Processes: IQC, IPQC, and OQA

Taurus Engineering’s Quality Control Process is divided into three separate processes, ensuring that specialized expertise is applied to each stage of its operation. This system also provides the redundancy necessary to prevent any quality problem from evading detection. These processes are Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), and Outgoing Quality Assurance (OQA).

IQC

Incoming Quality Control (IQC) insures that all incoming material is inspected and tested to Taurus’ Standards and insures it is suitable to be used to manufacture Taurus products.

The below Inspection records are required/kept by Taurus to verify the quality control processes of incoming material:

  • Inspection Reports: Reports for all incoming material that is tested to insure quality. Thisincludes electrical testing, Rubber bond testing, and 100 percent dimension inspection of allcritical components of incoming material.
  • Mill Certificates: Certs for all incoming metallic components certifying that the metal’sproperties are within the guidelines of NACE MR0-175.
  • Thread Certificates: Third party certification for all API & premium threads.

IPQC

In-Process Quality Control (IPQC) directs Taurus’ quality systems during the assembly process in order to detect and handle any problems that may arise during assembly.

The below reports and verification documents are used by Taurus to verify quality control and standards are maintained throughout the manufacturing process:

  • Lot Verification: Documentation is used to check and verify all lot materials such as epoxy, rubber, and cable. For example, each cable’s length, type, and lot number are recorded beforeit is used.
  • Electrical Test Reports: Electrical Components that are to be used as part of an assembliesare electrically tested according to the required/corresponding standard(s).
  • Fit Test Reports: Interlocking components are threaded and/or fit together to insurecompatibility. Thread and Go/No-Go Gauges are used where applicable.
  • Tooling Verification: Checks are performed to verify that the proper tooling is used for thecorresponding product being manufactured every time.

OQA

Outgoing Quality Assurance (OQA) is performed as the final steps before equipment is shipped and includes numerous redundancies from the IQC and IPQC processes to ensure the validity of the previous processes.

The below QC records are performed/kept by Taurus to maintain quality control for assemblies before they ship:

  • QC Check List: checklists are completed for all kits by Taurus QC Supervisors, as well asreview of packing lists and crate order forms.
  • Electrical Test Reports: All outgoing electrical assemblies are electrically tested according tothe required/corresponding standard(s).
  • Pressure Test Profile: Pressure testing is performed on all shop assembledconnectors/feedthrus. These tests provide a pressure profile which is used to approve pressurerated systems.

Testing Capability

Taurus Engineering utilizes stringent testing capabilities to ensure the reliability of our connector systems with simulated well conditions:

  • Pressure/Temperature Cycling up to 10K PSI & 500 F.
  • Electrical monitoring during Pressure/Temperature Cycles.
  • Superheated Steam testing for SAGD Applications.
  • 60 ft Pressure Chamber for testing Factory-Attached Cable + Connector Systems.
